The Tour of the Three Peaks of Lavaredo
The tour of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo is one of the most beautiful and fascinating excursions in the world, the most recommended season is summer, until September/October when the colors start to turn golden and everything smells of uncontaminated nature...
The route of the Giro delle Tre cime di Lavaredo is well signposted and can be done clockwise or even anti-clockwise. Usually the tour is done counterclockwise, but this does not mean that it is equally satisfying in the clockwise direction.
The itinerary of the Giro delle Tre cime di Lavaredo
The itinerary starts at the Auronzo Refuge, easily reachable from Misurina in about ten minutes by car and you park at the Tre Cime di Lavaredo car park. The entire route around the immense Tre cime di Lavaredo will dazzle your eyes and heart with its beauty, and you will be able to admire them from numerous observation points.
From the Auronzo Refuge, where you can admire the Ansiei Valley and Auronzo di Cadore, the Catini di Misurina (2839 m), Lake Misurina and Lake Antorno, Sorapiss and Monte Cristallino di Misurina, take the road dirt road with a comfortable and flat course, which will take you to Rifugio Lavaredo and once reached, to continue you can choose the path on the left that passes at the foot of the Torre Piccola di Lavaredo, or you can continue along the road that follows with a slightly longer, but easier to quiet. If you choose this path, you will climb towards the Forcella Lavaredo, and shortly after you will be able to see the beauty of the pink walls of the Main Dolomite. In front, you will admire the walls of the Cima Piccola. Continuing, you will arrive at Forcella Lavaredo, which is the highest point of the entire Giro delle Tre cime di Lavaredo.
From here you can admire the majestic Tre Cime di Lavaredo and a large number of mountains that open in a circle including Monte Rudo, Croda dei Rondoi, Torre dei Scarperi, Monte Mattina, Torre Toblino and Sasso di Sesto.
Continuing you will find another dirt path with more or less flat sections, and after a wide path, continue along the path to the left, you will be near the "anti-sources" of the Rienza River. Here the water is clear and fresh throughout the year, in some places it even disappears underground, and then reappears further downstream.
Be careful that, as you continue, it will be easy to have close encounters with the best friends of the Tre cime di Lavaredo: we are talking about marmots, red or common foxes, chamois...
Continuing on your tour of the Three Peaks of Lavaredo, you will see the majestic peaks getting closer and closer…
After about three hours of walking, you will be able to see the starting point again, the now nearby Rifugio Auronzo and the large car parks, usually full of cars. The excursion ends here, at the Auronzo Refuge, where you can pick up the car for the return to the valley.
